Overview and Guide to the Airport in Seville (SVQ) – San Pablo Airport
Seville Airport, also known as San Pablo Airport, is situated about 10 kilometres northeast of the Seville city centre. It’s a significant hub for travel in the Andalusia region, servicing both domestic and international flights. As a medium-sized airport, it offers a range of basic amenities including shops, restaurants, and car rental services.
Seville Airport History and Overview
Seville Airport first opened in 1929 as a small aerodrome known as Aeródromo de Tablada to provide postal and passenger services within Spain. In the 1930s it began handling international flights from destinations like Amsterdam and Brussels.
In 1991, Seville hosted the World’s Fair, which led to another new terminal and additional upgrades. The 2000s saw continued passenger growth, requiring terminal expansions. In 2008, the current Terminal 2 opened for non-Schengen international flights.
Today, Seville Airport handles around 4.5 million passengers annually on domestic and international routes. It is Spain’s 4th busiest airport. Major reconstruction is underway through 2023 to build a third terminal and further increase capacity to 16 million passengers per year.
