The building has a modern design but it also fits well with the historic architecture of the city. The visually striking exterior exemplifies 19th century neoclassicism with Its ionic columns, balustrade galleries, arched windows, and stone reliefs. The building spans four floors visible from outside. A central triumphal archway leads into the ground floor lobby.
Two grand marble staircases at the entrance ascend to the main doors of the auditorium and large bronze lamps on stone bases flank the entry stairs – it really is very grand!
The U-shaped auditorium follows a classic Italian-style horseshoe design surrounding the stage. It houses 1,738 seats across two levels providing intimacy along with excellent acoustics. Modern theatre machinery allows complex stage mechanics for operatic productions.
